Finding the right size is important, but how does bra sizing work?
All bra sizes consist of a number and a letter. The number refers to the band size and the letter refers to the cup size. To determine your band size, use a measuring tape to measure around your torso, directly under your breasts. To determine your cup size, first calculate your bust size by measuring around the fullest part of your breasts (usually right under the nipples). Then subtract your band size from your bust size.
How do larger cup sizes work?
The average cup size is increasing around the world. At the same time, studies show that many women think they need a smaller size than they really do. Now that you know how larger cup sizes work, you can use a measuring tape to determine your bra size. You can also learn a lot about your cup size by looking in the mirror. If your cup size is too small, you’ll see it and feel it right away: Your cups will dig in and your breasts will spill out. The center gore (the fabric in between the cups) should lay flat against your chest, as should the band.

Know your bra size... and your sister sizes
Now that you know how bra sizing works, you can figure out your sister sizes. These sizes can be useful if a style or a brand runs bigger or smaller than you're used to.
To determine your sister size, move up and down the size chart diagonally. For example, if you usually wear an 80D, try going down a band size and up a cup size (75E) or going up a band size and down a cup size (85C). In this example, 75E and 85C are your sister sizes.
Tip: Make sure you look at the right size on the bra label and the size chart. A European size isn’t the same as a French size.

And finally, this: Your bra size is more than just a math equation. Finding the right bra is an art form. Just because you and your neighbor wear the same bra size, doesn't mean your breasts are identical.
